Bonding straps are basically preformed copper connectors which are used to connect two metallic parts of an electrical equipment or any metal objects.
Bonding straps are used for safe electrical earthing or lighting protection. Bonding straps are made from Solid Copper, Flat Copper Straps , Stranded Copper Wire or Braided Copper Wires.

Flat Copper Straps are often used in cases where very rare movement or rare vibration occurs or where degree of bending of the strap is low.

Ground strap of appropriate type must be selected before installation. Places where humidity in air is higher or in highly corrosive environment copper must insulated with proper insulation to avoid oxidization of copper.
Why Copper is Preferred for Earthing / Bonding / Lightning Protection?
Copper has highest conductivity and has better resistance to corrosion than steel. Copper is cathodic with respect to other materials such as zinc , steel , aluminium. If a galvanic cell is formed at the contact point then the other material will corrode. It is therefore Copper is most proffered material in very corrosive location e.g. fertiliser plants.
What is Preferred Method of Bonding?

The preferred method of bonding is direct bonding , jointing objects together with no interference to conductor. But there are various situations in which operational requirements or locations of equipment often preclude the implementation of direct bonding.
